Typography II, Breaking the Rules

Breaking the Rules
Created for Typography II
As an introduction to this assignment, my Typography II teacher lectured on the established rules of Typography. We were then expected to "break" one of these rules, and then create one of our own.

There were two parts to this assignment. The first part involved designing an 8.5" by 11" page introducing our concept. This was then followed up by an 11" by 17" spread demonstrating, and proving, that our new rule worked. Once completed, the classes work was collected and published in a book titled "Terrain".

To accomplish this task, I decided to break the established rule of using historically and time tested fonts, such as Helvetica or Garamond, by using a recent font, such as Lobster. In doing so, I hoped to prove that by using non-traditional fonts, such as Lobster, conceptual and visual depth are created.

As an extension to this project, I recently explored how this design would apply to various environments.
