Dia De Los Muertos
Día de los Muertos [Day of the Dead] is a Mexico National holiday to celebrate the lives of Dead Ancestors, in conjunction with the Catholic holidays of November 1st and 2nd. It is believed that the Souls of the dead join the living in these celebrations of remembrance. Decorations such as sugar skulls and marigolds are placed on alters in honor of loved ones during this time.
Sugar Skulls were a natural progression from my journey into monsters and ghouls.  Most of my friends were doing Sugar Skulls in their mediums a couple years ago, and everywhere I looked, SUGAR SKULLS! I decided I'd join the trend and make sugar skull monkeys. I studied sugar skulls for a few days and then whipped up a monkey. I'd recreated it for Day of the Dead, every year since.
Sugar Skull Monkeys typically come in a variety of colors, mostly bright. I keep the face the same, and vary the limbs by what's in stock at the time. I'm moving toward a more consistent set of monkeys in colors that can be ordered on demand.
Sugar Skull Monkeys are available in my shop periodically throughout the year at rebelalamode.com.
