The Special Relationship

The Special Relationship
The Special Relationship is a phrase used to describe the exceptionally close political, diplomatic, cultural, economic, military and historical relations between the United Kingdom and the United States, following its use in a 1946 speech by British statesman Winston Churchill.

“This means a special relationship between the British Commonwealth and Empire and the United States. This is no time for generalities, and I will venture to be precise. Fraternal association requires not only the growing friendship and mutual understanding between our two vast but kindred systems of society, but the continuance of the intimate relationship between our military advisers, leading to common study of potential dangers, the similarity of weapons and manuals of instructions, and to the interchange of officers and cadets at technical colleges.” Winston Churchill, The Sinews of Peace, 1946.

May 2011, Barack Obama and David Cameron renamed this relationship, "Ours is not just a Special Relationship, it is an Essential Relationship - for us and the world."

The brief required production of a title, front cover and a means of advertising for a book that portrays the Special Relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States in it’s true historic state.
This project was to be approached with a purely political, informative and educational angle. Historical correctness is vital to the effectiveness of this promotion.
