Coney Island - Paintings & Drawings

Coney Island Inspired Paintings and Drawings
These paintings and drawings were created as part of the Master of Fine Arts process at William Paterson University in NJ. As a departure from my work as an illustrator, I had some time to delve into some ideas that I have been working on for many years. I have  been very interested in the Coney Island of the early 1900s- the precursor to the modern entertainment parks like Disney World- and other major attractions. When I visit Coney today, I can still see and feel echoes of that distant past. The work that follows represents the visual musings that I went through, that led to a final thesis project for my MFA.
Mixed media - acrylic and collage elements from storyboard concepts for Coney children's book
"Coney Girl"   Mixed media: acrylic and pasted digital images. This is a concept for upcoming Coney Island book concepts that I am developing.
Series of 24 x 24 images depicting iconic images from Coney Island
Coney "Bowery" Streetscape - Mixed media: Acrylic paint and digital collage.
"Cyclone Side"  Mixed media: Acrylic and digital collage
Concept sketches related to imagery inspired by Coney Island boardwalk. These ideas became part of a three-dimensional concept for an installation that was part of my thesis work.
Upper Image: Maquette for 3-D concept for MFA installation. Wood and metal rods.

Lower image: Mixed media sketch: Pen, paint sticks and wire screen collage.
