Desert Organ
I was asked to design a small scale structure to be located in Doha, Qatar. I set myself a brief:
To design a structure that is sculpted by the shamal (a desert wind), perforated by the sun and that sings the song of the wind.
Architecturally, the structure must provide shelter, shading and allow for cooling. Its components must respond to the local climatic conditions.
The primary Architectural effects desired are:
- sound generated by the wind that is audible when near the structure
- a play with light and shadow that creates an interesting exterior/interior
