Maíz Dorado, Brandscaping

This project involved the development of the restaurant’s interior,  storefront, and furniture. The client’s premise was to create an exclusive place that captured mexican essense devised the Maíz Dorado’s concept. “Maíz” represents life sustenance from our culture that predates hispanic influences and is a food closely tied to mexican culture. “Dorado” has a double meaning as a prestigious symbol of gold, but also represents the process of roasting certain foods to a golden hue. This combination of meanings gave way to the name “Maíz Dorado.”
The restaurant is located in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, México in an antique home built over 80 years ago. The home’s original materials were carefully procured, rescued, and repurposed in order to optimize the space within the existing structure. To maintain the architectural essence, they referenced materials used in colonial construction and, in some cases used the same materials used during colonial times, such as the use of gabions in the columns instead of stone walls.
