There are so many things around us that are influential and inspirational. One summer, I spent a lot of time in the fields of a potato farm. I could not get over how diverse and fantastic the dirt was. It was a constantly evolving visual that is both universal and incredibly specific to that day and location. These images are like the fingerprints of our planet. Each one will never be repeated.
As an artist, I am constantly trying to expand my knowledge and technical skills. I believe that one area of work only becomes stronger when we practice another area. The attention to detail and patience of working the darkroom while doing these portraits only strengthen the same skills as I work in any area of photography. The purity of the image is only reinforced by the richness of traditional photographic practices. By stripping the background of outside information, these portraits show the simple the relationship of the subject and the camera.
