RE•COLLECTIONS
digital photography, shadow box with etched plexi-glass
This project explores how memories are formed and encased in a physical obejct for recall. Each piece of this ongoing series featured a random object discoverd at a thrift or antique store. Each object is acquired after it has, often surprisingly, triggered a unique and powerful memory from my past. Most of the revisited experiences come from a time of high emotion or a very young age and challenge the truth of our personal histories. The photograph of an object and overlay of etched plexi-glass further remove the accessability of the objects and distorts the viewer's ability to fully realize the object and private moments of my past.
