Redesigning a Takeout Experience: Jimmy John's

Redesign a take-out food packaging experience, in this case Jimmy John's, with consideration to it’s sustainability. In our throw-away society, restaurants usually specify their packaging choices based on conventional sizes/materials or perceived budget restraints. Consideration must be given to the user’s experience of it, how it leverages their brand or how it impacts the environment.

Problem: Although the graphics have changed over time, the packaging design and takeout experience hasn't. The paper bag wrapped sandwich has become stale and should remain in the sacked-lunch filled elementary school years. Also, the excess amount of packaging is bad for the environment.

Solution: My solution is to make the food packaging a bit more mature, making the takeout experience a bit more mature and refined, suitable for college students (which in my opinion is the main audience). As well as solve the main problem which is the amount of unnecessary waste and be more environmentally conscious.

The bag would be made out of one sheet of 100% recycled paper and printed with vegetable oil inks, there would be no glue involved since the bag utilizes folds to maintain it's shape.
The design is more stream line as well as professional, excluding any unnecessary text. Also, the logo has been changed to be asingle, more minimal and clean logo.
As you can see, the bag folds out to reveal the sandwich inside as well as provide a surface to eat.
Another thing about the bag is that it can be used to house the chips instead of the chips having their own separate bag.
It would cut down on the unnecessary waste of having too many plastic bags lying around.
