PROGRESS
The brief of the first project was to study SS2016 collections and choose a theme for you to create your own series.
After spending a few days to go over all the collections, I was initially intrigued by designers like Mcqueen, Katrantzou, Scognamiglio, and Viktor & Rolf. However, this time I wanted to try something classical rather than experimental. Having that in mind, Elie Saab's haute couture AW15 collection was speaking to me. I couldn't take my eyes off from those golden dresses.
Theme: "Grandeur, opulence, and the beauty of women"
Style: classical, luxury, noble, fluid, light, byzantine inspired pattern
Color: mainly gold and silver
I also like how they played blue and yellow background lights depends on the clothes.
Elie Saab (1964~)
Lebanese fashion designer. Prodigy in early years. Started his own wedding dress label at the age of 18 with a team of 15 employees. His style is a fusion of western and eastern culture. His reputation grew from Beirut, Italy, to Rome. But his overnight success was brought by Halle Berry when she wore his dress at the 2002 Academy Awards when she also won for Best Actress. In 2003, his first haute couture collection was introduced in Paris.
After rough sketches in photoshop(some of them are from my another project) I thought that #3 and #4 were too much; Dancers, movements, and fiery effects were just too much to look at. However, #6 and #7 were simple and yet captured the Elie Saab's elegance and fluidity so, I decided to go with this direction.
My Theme: "Glittering Passion"
I further explored the new direction. #3 was my favorite. And while I was exploring I thought it would be fun to add the flow of time into my series - Starting from a day to an early morning.
Following images are my work in progress screen shots.
