Waste of Space

Packaging and the display of food has become an illusion, a fantasy. We are shown what the brands think we want to consume: large flashy packages, a great value for your money, filled with a bounty of food. But often, when you open the package, the reality is far from what we're led to expect.

Chips packets have always infuriated me. You hold a puffy bag in your hands; then, when you open it and let the air out, you're left with a tiny pile of chips at the bottom. I wanted to investigate this issue deeper to see which brands were creating the biggest examples of expensive air (and who was creating the largest carbon footprint in transportation of it).

The size of each bag was calculated fresh from the shelf. Then the contents were removed and vacuumed-sealed in another bag to see how the size compared. The results? A loss for the consumer and the environment.
