Dan Fenton (San Jose)'s profile

SAG’s Development Process for Nonprofit Meet

After leading Team San Jose for a number of years, Daniel (Dan) Fenton became a partner with the Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) in 2011, and he currently directs the firm’s Marketing, Branding, and Tourism Strategy department. The former Team San Jose CEO is now responsible for SAG’s evidence-based and stakeholder-driven initiatives nationwide. Among his many projects, Dan Fenton has worked to reignite the economy in Atlantic City, New Jersey by establishing a tourism organization called Meet AC.

SAG conducted extensive research on successful destination locations and assessed the current organization’s operations to guide its development of Meet AC, which concentrates exclusively on group sales efforts. By reworking the former organization, SAG developed a new private, nonprofit enterprise designed to successfully sell the Atlantic City destination.

SAG accounted for the specific needs of Atlantic City as it structured Meet AC, establishing new mission statements, bylaws, staffing requirements, and budget procedures. Following the creation of a new leadership model, SAG also selected a CEO and board of directors for the organization.

Along with organizational modifications, SAG implemented a targeted strategy for Meet AC, with a focus on connecting casino and hotel properties around the city. SAG worked with attractions, non-gaming facilities, and all 12 casinos in Atlantic City to develop strategies for citywide advancement.
