A year ago I was contacted by one of the organizers of the Vancouver Street Dance Festival if I wanted to make last years poster for them. At this festival dancers from all over the world show people their best moves. It's for all ages, so the poster had to be fun and inviting for everyone. 
 

Some of the earliest sketches I made. The idea was to do something with objects revolving around the festival, like summer, music, Vancouver and dancing itself of course. I made quick sketches of some ideas and eventually we picked the second one.

 

 

Played with different kind of handlettered logos. I wanted it to be fun and exciting, yet still readable and fitting for the rest of the poster. Because the poster is already very colourfull and busy, I decided to pick a lettering that was simple, but could also become more fun by giving it lots of colour or shaking the letters around a bit. 

 

 

The final sketches. I started out with doodling a lot of the objects and putting them together like a puzzle. I made a few different compositions to work with, and also sketched out different titles. The font is made from my own handwriting, to give it a personal touch.
