I was inspired by the deck designs sold by Creature Skateboards to create my own series of monster-based skateboards. I find designing skateboards to be an incredibly fun and creative experience with no bounds other than the edges of the board. It is also a great opportunity to incorporate my love of illustration in a new and challenging format. I decided to make a fawn, gorgon, and mermaid - all beautiful and strange creatures. I drew the line art for the monster girls, drew the shadows on tracing paper, and colored them in photoshop using gradients. I planned for all of the white space to be invisible, showing the beautiful grain of the Canadian maple deck.
