Resonating Across Boundaries for UH Alumni

UHGAP // Event Brand Creation // Program

CHALLENGE //
For the annual Main Event, create a powerful event theme, identity and promotional materials to celebrate the unique strengths, aesthetics, and perspectives that Middle-Eastern students and alumni have brought to the UH Design program. And then? Adjust the event theme and speaker to be more global when the Middle East became too dangerous for travel.

ACTION //
Origin evolved the visuals over the course of the event promotion—language, graphic elements, and color continued to evolve as the event drew near. Because communicating across cultures can’t be over-simplified, or overly-complex—it must be authentic, and it must resonate.

Origin worked with a cultural advisory board on the event concept, and then designed the entire brand program, including save-the-date postcard and poster invitation, event website with registration, email and social media campaign, event signage, presentation materials, and promotional video. This was the inaugural event co-hosted by AIGA Houston and UHGAP, and featured its most well-known speaker to date—Bennett Peji, AIGA Fellow, and specialist in civic branding and cross-cultural design.

Said Associate Professor Beckham Dossett, "The venue was amazing and special; Bennett's talk was thoughtful and well-received, the program was snappy and to the point, and the event branding and design was beautiful."
