Shibori Umbrella

I recently had the opportunity to learn tie and dye and shibori during a workshop at our college. We were taught many different shibori techniques and encouraged to experiment and come up with our own techniques using bizarre and uncommon objects.

By the second week, we were asked to come up with a final product. I wanted to display all of these interesting techniques that I learnt in a unique manner. So I decided to make a silk umbrella using classic indigo dye. Every silk panel was dyed individually and hand stitched onto an umrella which was purchased from the market.

A special thanks to my model Sanjana Raju.

Time taken: 1 week
Process of experimentaion: folding, tying and dying

Final pieces hanging out to dry
