New Boat Development

The first boat I scanned for Legacy Paddlesports was the Liquidlogic Stinger plug. This boat had been a prototype for a few years while all the bugs were getting worked out. It was a fast boat but needed a lot of critical tweaking to make it a great boat. So in order to understand and keep track of the changes I scanned it with my Microscribe. To my knowledge, no one had ever scanned such a large plug with such a small scanner and pieced the scan sections together. It turned out to be tremendously successful and became the R&D MO whenever we needed to scan a plug.

Sam Spear, friend and fellow designer was critical in all of these scans. He and I spent hours leveling, marking, double checking and finally scanning each plug. After I did the post process stitching of the plug, he took the information I scanned and modeled the entire hull in Solidworks.  Below is a short list of just some of the plugs under the Legacy Paddlesports, Liquidlogic & Native Watercraft Umbrella that we did together.
Scanning the Liquidlogic Stinger
Scanning an old seat plug in order to maintain the seat pattern and features for the new stinger seat. Here, Sam and I take turns scanning the heavily gridded seat plug.
Scans of the Flying Squirrel. This was done so we could scale to the smaller plug in Solidworks.
Scanning the Ultimate FX12. This was not an easy hull to redesign. Both Sam and I modeled this boat and we made sure it was right. Here we are scanning revisions so that we could maintain the parametric relationship between hull, deck and outfitting.
SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO:
Sam Spear, John Kiffmeyer, Linda McKee, Ken Wright, Brad Stephens, Shane Benedict and the whole Legacy Paddlesports team. Also, a special thanks to the Pro Staff for all your input. You're all awesome!
