A Room in the Sky
Proposal to comply with 100 meter height requirement, 50 guest rooms and shared bathrooms. Unique and restricted site constraints call for a minimal intervention type approach. Design lead in collaboration with Mr Andy Chen.
A Room in the Sky provides the user with an individually carved retreat where internalised balconies and public terraces wrap themselves up alongside lounge spaces and viewing zones.
As a consequence of the site constraints, and the brief provided, a minimal intervention type approach has been adopted for the hostel that looks at reducing the impact of the proposal at ground level. Programme is sunk into the basement level in order to minimise any impact on the surrounding buildings, and a minimum tower footprint at grade is proposed where only the principle elements required are provided. The programmatic requirements that extend up the tower are created off site as a set of precision engineered modules and are clipped in place as they move up along the core.
Room in the Sky stands as a modern example of functionality whilst also providing a creative and fun filled experience for the user of the hostel.
