Art Commission : Elemental by Retrologik

Elemental is an album written, mixed, and recorded by Retrologik, the moniker of the music artist otherwise known as David Mahawili. This first album of his is, as quoted by David, a journey of "introspection, darkness, and transcendence told through the guise of modern electronica... The album follows the path of a traveler on an inward journey past the entrapment of the ego on towards the center of the soul. There, they find the essence of their being: a timeless vault that taunts them with answers as they near oblivion. But not all is hidden in darkness forever, and once they reconstruct themselves from the elemental fragments found within, they are reanimated by their dreams."

Although the album songs were not completed at the time of brainstorming for the album art, after hearing descriptions such as the above statement, it became clear that such musical concepts should also be translated into visually artistic concepts, and the physical album itself could realize its three dimensional potential to further reinforce the tones, atmospheres, and ideas behind the songs. Thus, the album art reflects this idea of a two-sided journey into one's self and the effects such travels project onto one's exterior. The art created for this album seeks to visually capture the musician's musical depiction of a journey to enlightenment, to discovering the elemental truths of one's reality and essence, through introspection of oneself.

Elemental is currently available for digital sale and download on Amazon, CDBaby, iTunes, and Spotify. The original art I created for the interior of the album before I added the text;
being the inside, it symbolizes the transcendence through introspection.
