Design Challenge:  “Design something I’ve never seen before, award winning”. This was the challenge from the client during our first project meeting.

Design Intent:  It was the beginning of the “returning to the new normal”, as the Pandemic was waning, when the challenge of this project presented itself. Fresh in my mind was a yearning for the outdoors. The color green was very present in my head. Reconnecting with nature was of utmost importance, with large, expansive windows allowing natural light to flow into the working environment. Every room required a visual connection with other adjacent spaces. Flowing organic forms along with warm colors and some natural elements and materials warmed the space and welcomed employees back to the workplace.

Three colossal custom murals were fabricated for the space with actual photographs of the microtubing manufactured by MicroLumen. Custom, extra-deep PET baffles, acoustical light fixtures, and high performing double-glazed storefronts, were used to increase the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of the space and counterbalance the hard finishes specified throughout.

As part of MicroLumen’s commitment to its employees, a wood-fire-pizza oven was imported from Italy to serve as the centerpiece of the Café and an outdoor putt-putt green was added for the enjoyment and relaxation of the employees.
