Casket Skirt By: Dawn Weaver (exterior purple skirt)

The interior of the casket lid was padded with batting and foam tubing to round over hard edges. Using strips of cardstock to create a clean edge, fabric was spaced, folded, pinned, and stapled, to create even pleating. Edges were then trimmed and a cardboard insert was wrapped with batting and fabric, and glued in place to cover the center panel and hide staples. A matching interior skirt was added at the back and sides of the casket following the same steps, to cover bare wood and to disguise an escape hole in the back of the casket. In the rehearsal process, a foam mattress pad and slippery satin fabric were added inside the casket for comfort, and to make it easier for the actress to slide out the escape hole on stage.
