A former chairman and CEO of the Oppenheimer Group, Inc., Stephen Robert is a philanthropist who co-founded the Source of Hope Foundation with his wife. The foundation assists nonprofits worldwide. Stephen K Robert is also a trustee at the Perez Art Museum in Miami (PAMM).

PAMM displays Wangechi Mutu's "You tried so hard to make us away" mylar collage in its African and African Diaspora gallery. Kenyan-born American artist Wangechi Mutu created the artwork in 2005. The artwork depicts a slender runway model with earmarks of the Western paradigm of beauty.

Wangechi Mutu crafted the collage from pieces of contact paper and photo fragments of face and body parts from publications like Vogue, National Geographic, Glamour, motorcycle magazines, and travel books. The artist merged collage elements with hand-rendered passages using ink, acrylic, glitter, and watercolor, resulting in a visual representation reminiscent of opulent textiles and conveying the notion of lesions and wounds.
