Chargesheimer Exhibition Catalogue

This years exhibition of the Gallery Julian Sander at the largest European art fair for photography “Paris Photo” focused exclusively on the Cologne based artist Chargesheimer. We designed an extraordinary catalog for this special event: In a black photo box, visitors were handed a collection of materials including a daily newspaper, many separately produced photographic prints in different formats, a drawing on yellow lined paper, and a poster.

This made it possible to show the range of works of the artist, who is known only as a photographer. The newspaper works as an introduction to the artist’s oeuvre, but also includes a map of the exhibition space and explains the concept of the presentation. The design is based on the aesthetics of the post-war period and picks up on the zeitgeist of one of Chargesheimer's most important creative periods.

Chargesheimer also designed a machine to create light projections in darkened rooms, which he named the “Meditation Mill” and was also part of the exhibition. The poster on the front shows the activated machine in a dark room and on the back the deactivated machine in a brightly lit room.
