The Medium is the Massage Redesign
The Medium is the Massage by Marshall McLuhan and Quentin Fiore is a 160 page visual manifesto on media and communication in society. Through McLuhan's writing and Fiore's design, the book shares a unique perspective on how media and medium affect our everyday lives.
Working with the original text, I used my own style guide and photography to reinterpret the authors' vision. Processing the information through fresh eyes and ears, I created a series of layouts experimenting with type and image. While some spreads use straightfoward type to represent McLuhan's powerful words, others deconstruct imagery and phrases to represent our complex relationship with technology and society.
