Il vaso di Pandora

"Il vaso di Pandora" - "The Pandora’s Box"

New work created for the opening of Garance & Marion Art Galley

Pandora is considered one of the first women of humanity. Born by the will of Jupiter, she was meant to punish the audacity of Prometheus, titan who with the help of his brother Epimetheus, gave life to humanity. Stealing a spark of fire from the chariot of the sun, Prometheus gave the Man the power of fire, disobeying Jupiter’s ban and unleashing his wrath. Jupiter then ordered Vulcan to mould with earth and water a woman similar in appearance to the immortal goddesses and ordered the other gods to give her virtues and qualities. The woman was then called Pandora, or "the one who receives gifts from the gods".

She was then brought to earth by Epimetheus, who, forgetting her brother’s warning never to accept gifts from the gods, took her in marriage. Pandora had with her a box containing all the misfortunes and calamities that until then did not belong to men, but she did not know the contents of the jar. Driven by curiosity he opened it and freed all the evils on earth, he made time to close it a moment before hope could come out. From that moment Pandora became the guardian of hope, "hope is the last to die".
