This brief was simply to create a direct mailer, which was to be sent off to companies to gather a placement. It had to incase a playful business card to engage them to contact you.

I first started by trying to play on my name but I could not find anything strong enough or felt confident to take forward, until I came across the concept behind my ‘DAVID AND THE PLACEMENT’ direct mailer. This has formed and come from me being something of a collector. I looked into my range of collections to see what would inspire me and I came across an old box of vintage ephemera, which had been passed down to me. It was full of old and vintage typographical designs and also a few companies, which have completely changed their identity over the last few decades. My ephemera then led me into the theatre art of the 1900’s in particular Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The concept to play on the words ‘David and the’ became a branding exercise.

Through this I came up with a running theme, such as ‘David and the essay’, ‘David and the blog’ and ‘David and the creative journal’. I felt this was very suiting because of the scale and intensity of design work we receive and my identity gives it a crisp, clean finish, which can be adapted to all of the subject areas we study.

The design speaks for itself by showing clean, crisp and thought about typography. Which then through out the various publications keep these qualities and properties but also it has a layout if pictures are to be added.

The playful business card for my direct mailer was a ticket, which incased my contact information, but the design was not the most challenging prospect of this business card. The most challenging part was the screen-printing process because not only the whole project was screen-printed but also the business cards were printed back to back and I had to be very pernickety.

At the end of this project I am satisfied with the out come and feel this represents my qualities and myself. This project pushed me the most this year and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is my logo screen printed on to the front of my box/ package.
These are business cards which combine simple and effective typography, with the feel and texture of screen printing. I am not going to say the registration was easy for all people who want to take on this task.
This is my concept card, which clearly states how and why my project turned into 'David and the Placement'.
This image shows a collection of a few of the objects that are involved in making my mailer.
The anise vile for me just gave my mailer that little extra unique and memory quality. The glass vile had a few other surprises hidden deep with in.
As you unveil the cloth it gives you a simple message, which has been inspired by the next image.
This is where I found my concept for the anise vile. After I knew this it came to life.
My Typographic poster in my eye was the 'creme de la creme' of my direct mailer. This gave it real definition and the concept behind it was to give details of me. I found out that in studios some design studios keep typographic and inspiration posters on the wall, so if I could make a simple clean and crisp poster they may keep it.
This is the final piece.
Something I added, as I found this very true as I was completing this brief.
The last three images show a quick reply form, which could be filled out and sent to me, as i know designers/ design studios are busy and can not spend to much time.
