La nuit juste avant les forêts de B.-M.Koltès

In The Night JustBefore the Forests somebody foreigner, somebody who “is not really from here”, runs after somebody who is “still a child”, calls him “friend”, asks him for fire, for a room, to spend some part of the night, and invites him for a coffee. Somebody who does not take heed under the rain, and lets his clothes and hair soak under it. Somebody who is a foreigner to those who are from here, no matter who “those” are, no matter where “here” is. He runs under the rain and dears to ask almost everything, from fire to an entire sky. He dears to ask, maybe because he has nothing to lose, maybe because he has nothing at all· in the middle of a city, alone, foreigner, defenseless, penniless, out of collar, lonely, outrageously lonely. However, this foreigner, the lonely one, does not only ask, but demands to defend everybody who is still a child and bums around, and everyone’s right to bum around. He seeks for some grass and for the trees’ shadow. And he dreams, he keeps on dreaming and hoping, he seeks for something to hold on, a hand, a friend, somebody to love.
We chose to present this play now, starting from Exarheia in Athens in 2009, almost a year after the riots in December 2008 and then touring in Greece in 2010, for all the above reasons. But mainly because this somebody, the foreigner, the defenseless is one of us and continues to dream and to hope· even under this continuous rain…
