Marianne, from 1830 to 2019

MARIANNE, FROM 1830 TO 2019
This booklet originated as a union of two assignments developed during my Master's program in Basel: the paper written for the course Image History and the exercise for the course Typography II. The subject of my paper concerns the analysis of images that embody and reflect the symbolic figure of Marianne, from Delacroix's iconic painting, Freedom leading the people, to recent examples of activists or protesters.

The goal of the paper was to teach the student how to read the images and delve into what socio-cultural, political, and economic climate they were created and circulated in. Instead, the purpose of the typographic exercise was to understand the rules of layout and management of a typeface. In particular, the task was to experiment with the layout using two specific fonts. The limitations were format, number of pages, and binding.
I also mentioned this project on Medium, I invite you to read it :)
