THE PROBLEM

Edgar Allen Poe, famous for his long poems, also flourishes in short poems of different themes. How does one represent the beauty and depth of his poetry, giving it the contemplation it deserves?

 

SOLUTION STRATEGY

The final compilation must include a selection of Poe’s poems ranging from love, loss, fear, dreams, fantasy…and sometimes all of these at once. These poems must also be complemented by works that allow the reader reflect on the words, and stay locked in the stanzas as long as possible.

 

CONCEPT

The substrate for Poe’s works (paper) was transformed into a reflection of the adjacent poem’s themes.

 

FINAL PRODUCT

A quilled monogram of the most important word in the poem’s title sits on the verso page, with the poems printed on the recto, framed by white space. This allows the reader to appreciate the weight of the poem itself, then contemplate the meaning of it while taking in the folds, color, and twirls of the paper across from it.
