Official music video created for the track 'New Ruins' by electronic artist Indian Wells, on his EP 'New Ruins'. Released in 2020 on Max Cooper's label, Mesh.
For this track, Indian Wells had asked the question, ‘what are the ruins that the next civilisation discovers?’. I focused on an idea that humans may become totally immersed in the digital, while also considering rising water levels and that parts of the earth are anticipated to totally disappear. I tried to imagine: if mountains, water and technology had been the last things to exist with us, what could the three look like combined?
The manipulations in the landscape suggest a distant digital energy or memory left engrained in the mountains, which gradually reveals itself to the viewer over time, and I created watery scenes from landscapes which do not actually contain any large body of water. To compliment the music, I wanted to convey an intense but beautiful journey through a perilous landscape.
