Savannah: Order and Beauty

an architectural analysis
The city of Savannah was founded by General James Oglethorpe in 1733. A grid plan, exists to this day, was designed to allow the city to grow modularly. Inhabited by stunning live oaks and spanish moss, Savannah's squares represent a significant and the most enduring element of the city's planned community. This project is an analysis of Derby Ward, one of Savannah's four original wards, which houses the City Hall, an iconic symbol of community, unity and ever perpetuating improvements. The city's icon overlooks the famed Johnson Square.
