graceful machine: award-winning wind sculpture
The design of this kinetic wind sculpture is meant to comment on the relationship between human and the natural habitat. I chose the most unusual color in a natural scene (gloss red and a metalic chrome) to juxtapose with the surrounding landscape. The shape of the planes is designed to catch the wind just so they move gracefully, as opposed to a swirling motion. The sculpture is completely modular with a transparent structure (nuts, bolts and ball bearings). It is designed to be environmentally friendly; repurposed wood was used with a minimal use of glue. Each plane moves independently in the wind to frame and create close interaction with the nature. It was made with metal, wood and repurposed wood in May 2013 and it is 5'1" tall.
