Ameko: Product Design

Introduction

Aldridge School wants to create a tool for encouraging students to log extra curricular work experience housed in an accessible and fun for kids application.
Brief

Design a product and brand identity, develop and then ship a web app accessible by Aldridge students to build their extra curricular portfolios.
Discovery

After a workshop of ideas to gamify the product we settled on a Tamagotchi/Pokemon style approach where the student adopts an animal that they look after by earning points which are converted into food for your animal.
UI & UX

There are 6 different categories within the product that students can submit work to. We wanted a way to visually differentiate between those areas. A concept we came up with was 6 different habitat types with an animal in each that you care for.

These different areas all fold up into a 3D hexagon that symbolises the product as a whole.
Above and below are different concepts of the island habitats. We decided on a cell shaded low-poly design style for the animals and the island habitats.
Logo Design

For the logo a hexagon shape for the logo mark seemed the only choice. The hexagon was then divided into 6 segments to represent the 6 different areas of the product. So the logo is versatile we created two different versions.

The primary logo has some cell shaded style elements to match the 3D design style, but if a simpler version is needed we also created a flatter version as well as a mono colour version.
Below are the low poly assets in a collection for the user interface.
User Testing

The concepts were tested with the students and based on the feedback the product was simplified and made more minimalist to make it more accessible.
