Mobile Furnace

This furnace design is a commission for glass artist Bruce Chao (brucechao.net) to finalize the design of a mobile furnace. The furnace is intended to be constructed simply of available materials on site wherever desired. Specific categories of material must be met such as IFB (insulating fire brick) however, the design is flexible enough that it can be easily adjusted to work with various standard material sizes. Once assembled, the furnace and annealer combination are intended to be mounted in a truck trailer and used for up to two days of glass blowing (with two 100 lb propane tanks) wherever the artist chooses to travel.
300 LB Furnace

This furnace design was produced while working at Keer Glass Foundry and is intended to hold a 300 lb capacity crucible of molten glass. Designed for efficiency and with ample insulation while adjusting its shape to remove unused material it also has some newly developed features designed with advice from Michael Scheiner. This design features a rear access door and removable fiber board and castable back panels to allow easy access and replacement of a damaged crucible or any other part of the furnace interior. The gathering port also travels along two linear ball bearing tracks set at varying angles to provide near horizontal movement of the port while capitalizing on the slight pickup of its elongated arc to minimize the furnace footprint.
