Palouse Contours
This is the second installment in my project to document the changing aspects of the Palouse landscape over the course of a year. The first was called "Springtime in the Palouse," and since the current set includes pictures taken in early June, this could have rightfully been titled "Palouse Springtime, Part 2." The current batch of pictures were all taken from Steptoe Butte within an hour of sunrise, when the golden rays of the low sun dramatically emphasized the shape of the land. The rolling wheat fields still have a patchwork appearance, some having the green growth of winter wheat while others are still freshly plowed earth. Some may notice that a particular tree features in three photographs, which is evidence of the fact that I was particularly drawn to the compositional potential of this lone sentinel of the fields. (This tree also appears in the previous project.) Hopefully I have found enough variety in framing to keep it interesting. In general, I am continually delighted by the way that changing light can transform a scene, allowing me to return to the same place at different times and always find something new.
I hope you enjoyed these, and I look forward to continuing my exploration of the Palouse over the coming year.
