The brief was to design type posters based on someone famous, where text was the predominant feature in the design.

I chose the architect Erno Goldfinger a Hungarian Modernist who designed Trellick Tower in 1972. I started by using an image I had taken of Trellick and then outlining it using text to recreate the image. I then put this onto a concrete textured background and added the text against a darker area.
The second poster utilised the same type based Trellick but this time interlaced Erno into the building so it looked like it was an extension of his body. I then aligned the text with the front of the building.
The second person I chose was Man Ray, the Surrealist photographer. Here I started with an image of Lee Miller taken by Man Ray and then put text onto the face using a displacement map. I then placed this onto a textured background and added text, finally experimenting with layer blends to get the desired transparency.
I utilised the same image again but used layer blends to just get the mapped text. I wanted to keep this one very simple so chose a 1920s font and kept the colours simple.
On this one I experimented with placing images inside the text.
This design utilise another Man Ray image where I added text into the back ground, did layer blends on her hair and then interlaced the text in line with her chest.
I made these mock ups from photos I took on the tube. Using distort and warp I manipulated them into place.
