Festival of New American Music

Design Brief
Design a poster for a music festival on Sacramento State’s campus. The content must be organized with the campus demographic in mind, using clear hierarchy and interesting imagery to inspire attendance.

My Concept
The concept of this poster was inspired by listening to one of the festivals’ featured artists and visualizing what I heard in their music. Contrary to what I thought, the genre style was Ambient, consisting of somewhat chaotic and random noises. The concept was developed by cutting strips and shapes from paper and strategically placing them at random. This disorganization developed into a modern design that communicated motion and randomness, conveying the message of the festival’s music. The triangles break up the design and provide focal points to reinforce the hierarchy of the content.

Because the imagery was somewhat chaotic,
color was used to settle the design and make it approachable, using warm tones of orange and grey. The yellow was used as an accent color that reinforces motion.
