I’m SO excited to release the poster and artwork I did for Nathan Elliot’s Graduate Production of Agatha Christie And Then There Were None having performed Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at Pensacola Cristian College! (And yes I will be traveling tomorrow up to Pensacola to watch the play this weekend!)
Not going to lie, this went through capital MANY variations before finally landing on this version. Something I did want was the black and gold motif and a 1920s vibe. I really wanted this to feel modern yet vintage.
The concept: This play based on the book of the same name features the poem, “Ten Little Soldiers,” which has each little soldier die for some random reason. Each icon represents each little soldier within the poem and in turn, a character in the book. I wanted to be offering since almost all book and poster designs had a mansion, an island, and a giant skull. Almost. Every. One. I wanted to be different and I had this idea when I saw a movie poster of the Eternals and the cast was in a giant negative space above it! It’s a BEAUTIFUL design! I’ll have to break it down as a reel or a short or something, but I tried to do that with lines of the poem, but no dice. Finally, I decided that maybe icons would work just as fine! And it SO did! I added a 1920s pattern I created in the background to give it a 20s texture, and finally, the border was at Nathan’s request and it worked wonders for the poster!! Overall, I’m happy with this design and how it turned out!
