I am very happy & proud to showcase the fifth promotional artwork/poster I made for my alma mater's 2022 Spring Graduate Speech Recital, MAria & the VonTrapps, based on the classic, The Sound of Music! This play will be directed by the SUPREMELY talented @karis_hilton this coming semester! I already know it's going to be a solid production and I can't wait to see it!
Inspiration: I ABSOLUTELY hate cliches. With that being said, you will have never seen any hills coming alive in my rendition, haha! The hills are something you see in almost every poster that is made for The Sound of Music. I knew I wanted the family in the design and I knew I wanted to incorporate music, somehow. So, this was my "first design" that I took further. Usually, I have a few other thumbnails, but I fell in love with this concept - a zoomed-in music note - with the family interacting with the flag/bridge of the music note! If you scroll to the end, you'll see a wide-screen version of this poster with the full music note!
I won't lie, I did listen to the "La La Land" soundtrack when designing this poster! I wanted to be able to "hear" #Justinhurwitz 's "Summertime Montage" every time I looked at this, and I could say I do with the motion that I attempted to convey with the slanted not and seeing "disproportions" [because of the slant].
Either way, I had a lot of fun with this one, honestly! I certainly do hope that my skills will be continued to be put to use in the coming semesters!
