Seal

Phocidae or true seals (Phocidae) are a family of pinniped mammals adapted to living in aquatic environments most of the time. The common name derives directly from the Latin phoca, which in turn has its origin in the Greek φώκη (phṓkē).

Seals inhabit the coastal regions of much of the globe, with the exception of the tropics. They have elongated and spindle-shaped bodies, adapted to swimming; the forelimbs are short and flattened, better suited for use as fins than for movement on land. The posterior ones adopt a fixed position backwards, and cannot be retracted. Unlike other pinnipeds, seals do not have an auricle entirely.
