Literature has to be read. It can be heard. And it should be seen and experienced occasionally. This is exactly what the Literaturfest Salzburg invites you to do every year on five days in May, making literature in all its facets tangible everywhere in the city of Salzburg. Readings, talks, poetry and music – the literature festival is firmly anchored in the Salzburg cultural calendar.
Every year on the occasion of the literature festival, various quotes from participating authors are posted on the displays of shops and restaurants all over the city under the title »Literature in the shop window«. Many of these quotes from previous years can still be found on the shop windows and have now grown into a veritable literary collection. Some quotes are thought-provoking, others are irritating, and some are humorous. That was also the starting point for the Literaturfest Salzburg 2021 to put this year’s quotes in the spotlight with five subjects – for the five days of the festival. A self-confident and loud typography creates a tension between the often »fragile« text excerpts of the works, which is not only noticeable on the posters but also in the festival brochure.
