Climbing Wall in Center for Children and Youth, Poland

Climbing Wall
Center for Children and Youth in Gdańsk, Poland

Climbing wall for the Center for Children and Youth in Gdańsk, Poland was realized by Spilit (climbing holds manufacturer) in 2008.
The main goals for the Center for Children and Youth are: supporting children's psychological and social needs; providing a possibility for personal growth; and developing interests and talents. The Center is financed mostly by the city of Gdańsk and Caritas to ensure the free access to professional help for the children and youth with problematic background or for those from dysfunctional families. As a climbing holds manufacturer we were invited to one of the Center for Children and Youth location in Gdańsk to advise about the possibility of building a budget-friendly climbing gym. Climbing gym provides an exciting way to stay active and keeps children and youth occupied. Climbing shows the child’s ability to plan and problem solve and how to manage their bodies on unfamiliar, uneven, and unsteady surfaces. It involves coordinating their arms, legs and body while learning about different surfaces, heights, and depths. It helps to learn how to plan and practice the skills necessary to organize and carry out more and more complex tasks.

At that time the building was still in renovation so we had an opportunity to build a simple climbing wall without causing an additional mess. After discussing a few details with the management we decided to make a low height wall with only one long road, mainly for the safety reasons. It’s important to take precautions to keep everyone safe while using the wall. This includes thick padding at the bottom and special shaped climbing holds.
