Web/Graphic Design 2010-2011

About

&some was an experimental design and technology agency I cofounded with Maya McNicoll and Vyrne Gullery in 2010 (Auckland, New Zealand). While the 3 of us no longer work there, the agency continues to do well and has streamlined their services into a more focussed web design/development and digital branding agency.

During my time as Creative Tech lead, I worked on a multitude of projects ranging from interactive installations, corporate/retail event experiences, graphic and web design, branding, and product development. Below are a selection of my favourite design projects for &some.
Idealog

My last project before leaving New Zealand, I was lead design for the relaunch of New Zealand's best creative business website, Idealog. Had to be clean, stylish, and minimal (which was quite challenging with the amount of content and advertising space allocated).

Included full design of the new website, and a seperate iPad version. It was quite a large design project that I really enjoyed working on. I think the design has changed a little since I left, original concepts shown below.
Juice TV

Design & front end development for New Zealand music channel JuiceTV. JuiceTV are family run, and do not have the budgets of some of the bigger name music channels, and so required something unique and affordable.

I did some research and discovered that most, if not all television music channels fail to create a connection between what's on TV now and what's on their website now. So I came up with the concept, 'Live TV Guide'. When you jumped onto the website, whatever was playing on TV at that time mimicked the theme of the JuiceTV website.
Each show/time slot featured a large panoramic image and user's were able to leave anonymous (or not) comments directly on the page for each time slot, as well as agree/disagree and reply to other users comments.

To maintain the site, all the JuiceTV staff had to do was upload an excel spreadsheet once a month with the TV show names and time slots.
Andy Gibson

Album cover project I worked on for Auckland artist Andy Gibson. He asked me to use a particular photo he had of himself. I did that, but not in the way he envisioned. I used the image as a colour source and wrote a program to generate the graphics. All page designs are generated from crops of his original photo.

Groove guide

Web design for New Zealand's largest free, weekly, nationwide street press. Another advertisement heavy website, using the same content management systems as the Idealog website.
Art+Object

Design for 'Classic America' themed auction event for New Zealand's 21st century Auction house.
