The theme of the 7th Kuala Lumpur Triennial, Barricade, refers to urban and rural street constructions associated with insurgent demonstrations, political activism, or the policing of public space. Held just before national elections, Barricade seriously and playfully addresses Malaysia’s current political climate, and the global street aesthetics that have now become part of Malaysia and other societies from SE Asia to Egypt to Spain to Europe and the Americas.
