GULAG Archipelago Zig-zag | Ray Langenbach
GULAG Archipelago Zig-zag by Ray Langenbach (@exiblis)

A design project for an exhibition by Ray Langenbach, an artist, writer, archivist, and educator.

Langenbach transformed the Piyadasa Gallery at the Cultural Centre, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur into a performance space over a three week period from 3-19 April 2019.

The exhibition consisted of a continuously changing display of films, diagrams, maps, and interviews with former political prisoners about the experience of incarceration, and conversations between the artist and public in the gallery. The three-week durational performance closed with a lecture–performance at 6pm Friday 19 April. The show then froze in place and continued as a conventional exhibition through May, while Langenbach takes the performance on the road, travelling from rural prison-town to prison-town across the USA.
