TEQUIO CREATIVO:
OLLIN
Experimenting with glass
To express the impact of global climate change and at the same time leverage a sustainable manufacturing resource,
Duco lab. collaborated with Thirst, a multidisciplinary design studio based in Chicago, on an exhibit of blown glass
objects inspired by the náhuatl word Tequio, word that means “the act of giving and sharing for the collective benefit”.
The challenges overcome during the development face included working long distance with all collaborators and
using a material and technique we had never used before. We developed moldes for the pieces and finally met in Oaxaca
to blow the first badge, using recycled glass melted with 80% clean energy. The pieces represent different consequences of human impact on earth.
The piece I worked on is called Ollin, a three dimensional representation of statistics about Accumulated Cyclonic Energy in the last century.
