Mansfield News Journal, Aug. 8, 2010: Sunday front-page enterprise news lead on how the housing crisis affected Mansfield and Richland County by Teri Berg, with additional reporting on other Ohio cities by MNCO investigative reporter Russ Zimmer. Art by NJ multimedia editor Dave Polcyn.
Mansfield News Journal, July 15, 2010: Front-page news lead on a controversial halfway house trying to expand without notifying the city. The Mansfield VOA is one of two halfway houses in the city, which also is home to two prisons. All four facilities place enormous burdens on city and county resources, even while proving to be the least transparent institutions. A 2010 report by the News Journal found Mansfield the sex offender capital of Ohio, a dubious distinction long suspected in the area -- and one which proved intractable as Mansfield struggled near bankruptcy during the recession.
Mansfield News Journal, April 22, 2009: Front-page news feature on the City of Mansfield's toothless pit bull ordinance. Questions about the efficacy of the law had arisen after numerous dog-bite attacks, the worst of which saw two pit bulls set upon a mother and her son, savaging the four-year-old and not letting go even as police tasered them 15-20 times. The boy, Gabe Cooper, was hospitalized in critical condition, with extensive injuries to his face and head that required several reconstructive surgeries over the next year. The dogs' owner was charged in the case and ultimately sentenced to six months in a diversion program for failing to insure her illegal dogs.
Mansfield News Journal, April 2, 2009: Local page (A3) news feature conceived, reported, written and edited by Teri Berg.
