We took an old light and gave it new life using custom photography, image processing and a little ingenuity.

Inspired by a rather whimsical image we took of some local mushrooms while at our family cottage, we sought to inject the magic from the forest into our living room.

 

The original image was processed through a script created in Processing. We designed a user interface using the controlP5 library to give greater control over the script and eventually fine tune the resulting image.

The finished upcycled light is a double sided print on a translucent medium. Printing on both sides increased the image contrast and colour vibrancy.

 

While it was designed to look just as good during the day, when lit, the image is enhanced by a warm, whimsical glow.
