MMVA 2012 Queen St. Stage

Working with MOOD Design and Fabrication, we created a 3D visualization of the set for the 2012 Much Music Video Awards. The 3D models developed also served to generate the base geometry from which the set was built.

The biggest challenge of the project was creating the “shard” light elements. These shards were assembled by MOOD Design’s team from various translucent and transparent materials and attached to a skeletal frame structure. Because the shards needed to be constructed from a laser cut flat stock, all faces of the shards had to be flat, to optimize the construction process.

In addition to the 3D model and visualization, we created a script to make sure that those construction parameters were met. The script also broke out each of the faces and produced a cut sheet for the builders. It’s a great example of how we work with our clients to take a great concept through to reality.
Material map for the shard stage elements.
Scripted breakout, labelling and automatic collection of all the faces of the polygon.
Various material test and lighting conditions.
