Initially perceived as painterly figures wrapped in blocks and bands of white light, Luis Fernando's Underwaterseries utilizes the element of water to cast doubt on the quantifiable notion of the human figure. Underwaterinvites the viewer to ponder the space between indefinable obscurity and the distinctly recognizable, one that occurs when bringing an image into focus; what results is a grouping of images best described as haunting, poetic, ethereal, and occasionally erotic.

The element of water has long been synonymous with emotion and creativity, but it is the magic of its fluidity that shifts, shapes, and refracts; softening all that it encounters and infusing freshness and life into what would otherwise become static.  Such is the subtle nature of water in this series of pictures, where underwater photography abandons the conspicuous and embraces the lyrical.
